Review: Mark of the Demon by Diana Rowland

When Homicide Detective Kara Gillian finds traces of arcane power on a body, she quickly realizes that this is no ordinary murder. The serial killer known as the Symbol Man is a nightmare that Beaulac, Louisiana thought had ended three years ago, but now he's back for an encore and leaving every indication on the flesh of his victims that he is well-versed in demonic lore.

However, Kara is a Summoner of Demons, and may be the only cop on the city's small force who can stop the killer. Able to see and interact with a world most people can't, Kara must draw on her skills as a police officer and master of the arcane to stop the Symbol Man from killing again and possibly summoning something even she can't control.

But with a demonic lord of unearthly beauty and power haunting her dreams, and a handsome yet disapproving FBI agent dogging her waking footsteps, she may be in way over her head....

I absolutely loved this book. Kara is a great heroine and she has two amazing heroes one a sexy demon lord and an FBI agent who has secrets of his own. This book kept me turning pages long after my bedtime because I simply couldn't put it down. It was way different than anything I've read in a long time and I was extremely disappointed that the newest one in this series wasn't available at Walmart today even though it was released yesterday. May have to go on a road trip to the B&N this weekend. Hate that since it is an hour away from my house but for this one I'll make the drive lol.

I give this one 5 stars.

This book was purchased by me for my personal pleasure.

Review Red Headed Stepchild by Jaye Wells

RED-HEADED STEPCHILD DESCRIPTION:

In a world where being of mixed-blood is a major liability, Sabina doesn’t really fit in. And being an assassin – the only profession fit for an outcast – doesn’t help matters. But she’s never brought her work home. Until now.

Her latest mission is uncomfortably complex, and threatens the fragile peace between the vampire and mage races. As Sabina scrambles to figure out which side she’s on, she uncovers a tangled political web, some nasty facts about her family and some unexpected new talents. Any of these things could be worryingly life-changing, but together, they could be fatal …

This time, it’s personal.

Love this story. It started out with a bang and the action continued from there. Sabina has issues on top of issues with her family but she is one kick ass assassin. Love that we learned bits and pieces of her history as we went along right along with her. This book was great but a bit predictable which was a little disappointing. I am looking forward to reading more stories in this series just to learn more about what Sabina powers are and I do so want to see that bitch of grandmother of her get her payback.

I give this one 4 stars

I purchased this book myself with my own moolah.

Shattered

Quinn Rafferty is working as a bounty hunter and bail bondsman in St. Louis when a new neighbor catches his eye. He’s tempted by her beauty—but he knows from experience that anyone desperate enough to live in his building is damaged goods. Besides, he has his own soul to mend before he can worry about anyone else.

Desperate

Sara Davis is on the run, but not for the usual reasons a woman goes on the lam. She’s not an abused wife, and she’s not a criminal. But she does have a plan for her future. And as much as she finds herself attracted to her gruff, tough neighbor, she can’t risk telling him the secrets she’s hiding. There’s just too much at stake.

Driven to desire…

But Quinn must get closer to Sara when she turns out to be the target of his new missing persons case, and he discovers that there is something more complex and dangerous to her than he thought. Now, both Quinn and Sara will have to expose their true feelings—as well as their fragile hearts—if they hope their love will survive…

EXCERPT
He opened the door—

And stopped dead in his tracks as somebody all but fell into his arms. Somebody…a woman. And not Theresa.

He caught her just above her elbows, automatically steadying her.

“I’m sorry,” she said, her voice soft and low.

Then she lifted her face and Quinn found himself gazing into the biggest, brownest eyes he’d ever seen in his life. Feeling a little dazed, he studied her face while she stammered out another apology.

Quinn barely heard it.

He was too busy staring at her mouth. A very pretty mouth, a cupid’s bow mouth slicked with deep, vibrant red. Under his hands, he could feel silken smooth skin and unable to resist, he stroked a thumb along her inner arm.

Her skin was soft, soft and warm. He was also pretty sure she had the creamiest, most flawless skin imaginable. Her shoulder-length hair was a shade caught between blonde and brown, nondescript, but for some reason, he found himself thinking about tangling his fingers in that hair and holding her head still while he kissed that red-slicked mouth.

Well, hello…

Demon slaying powers should come with an instruction book …
Seriously. Why does a new hair dryer have a twelve-page how-to manual, but when it comes to ancient demon-fighting hocus-pocus, my biker witch granny gives me just half a dozen switch stars and a rah-rah speech? Oh, and a talking terrier, but that’s another story. It’s not like my job as a preschool teacher prepared me for this kind of thing.

So i've decided to write my own manual, The Dangerous Book for Demon Slayers, because no one tells me anything. Dimitri, my “protector,” may be one stud of a shape-shifting griffin, but he always thinks he can handle everything by himself. Only he’s no match for the soul-stealing succubi taking over Las Vegas. If I can’t figure out how to save him – and Sin City – there’ll be hell to pay.

In the ultimate showdown for survival, may the best demon slayer win.
Last month, I was a single preschool teacher whose greatest thrill consisted of color-coding my lesson plans. That was before I learned I was a slayer. Now, it’s up to me to face curse-hurling imps, vengeful demons, and any other supernatural uglies that crop up. And, to top it off, a hunk of a shape-shifting griffin has invited me to Greece to meet his family.

But it’s not all sun, sand, and ouzo. Someone has created a dark-magic version of me with my powers and my knowledge—and it wants to kill me and everyone I know. Of course, this evil twin doesn’t have Grandma’s gang of biker witches, a talking Jack Russell terrier, or an eccentric necromancer on its side. In the ultimate showdown for survival, may the best demon slayer win.

I won the last book of Angie's Demon Hunter series and of course I had to purchase the second one since I am anal and have to read a series in order. These books were a fun read that I completely devoured in about two days. Love them and as always Pirate stole the show for me. And those Biker Witches are a hoot. I am looking forward to many more in this series. And I give each of these books a solid 4 1/2 stars. If you want a fun, quirky read these are your books.

Happy Hour of the Damned

WARNING THIS REVIEW COULD CONTAINS SPOILERS

The main character is this book is Amanda Feral a yuppy ad executive. Who is made into a zombie. And yes that's a human flesh eating zombie. This book was well written and at times extremely funny. I love the snarky tone of it. And probably would have totally loved it except for one big ick issue that I had with it. Her first "meal" of which Mr. Henry doesn't got into heavy details thank god was a runaway teenager about 16 yrs old. Now in the book she talks about not eating children which is a nono but to me a 16 yr old is a child however you put it. I have kiddos that are around that age and I just couldn't get past that issue. Now if this wouldn't be a problem for you, you would probably love this book. I know that there are loads of people who love it. My other issue with this book was that zombies can drink alcohol and mixed drinks but can't drink anything else. That just didn't make sense to me and just kept taking me out of this book world.
Like I said this was a well written and funny book that I could have totally gotten into without the above two issues. I look forwarding to reading Mark Henry's new YA book he's coming out with. I really enjoyed his writing but not so much the subject matter. It wasn't to my taste. That being said I give this one 3 stars.

I bought and paid for this book all by myself no freebie for me.
