Review: Hanover House by Brenda Novak

Welcome to Hanover House….

Psychiatrist Evelyn Talbot has dedicated her life to solving the mysteries of the psychopathic mind. Why do psychopaths act as they do? How do they come to be? Why don’t they feel any remorse for the suffering they cause? And are there better ways of spotting and stopping them?

After having been kidnapped, tortured and left for dead when she was just a teenager—by her high school boyfriend—she’s determined to understand how someone she trusted so much could turn on her. So she’s established a revolutionary new medical health center in the remote town of Hilltop, Alaska, where she studies the worst of the worst.

But not everyone in Hilltop is excited to have Hanover House and its many serial killers in the area. Alaskan State Trooper, Sergeant Amarok, is one of them. And yet he can’t help feeling bad about what Evelyn has been through. He’s even attracted to her. Which is partly why he worries.

He knows what could happen if only one little thing goes wrong…

First things first if you are looking for a romance then this is not the book for you. There is little to no romance in this book. It is a straight up psychological thriller. Evelyn' history is truly horrific and I completely understand her wanting to understand the psychotic mind in order to figure out how to stop them. Or failing that how to identify them. Some people may not be comfortable reading about this subject matter. There are some awful monsters in this book that are passing for human beings. Evelyn is bringing together all of these monsters in one place to study. I'm not so sure this is a good idea but I will continue reading this series to see what happens. Amarok is an amazing hero. He is so gentle and understanding with Evelyn. He gives me hope that with his help she can overcome the trauma she was dealt by her first love the psychopath Jasper. But before they can even begin she is kidnapped again by Jasper her nightmare from the past. She manages to get away but even though in her her heart of heart she knows it was Jasper she cannot prove it and he got away again.

This book does not have a HEA it is not really even a HFN it is alright for now. The next book is not even coming out until 9/16 but I am looking forward to see what happens then. We got a little tease of things to come in this book and I really want to see how it all shakes out. I was given this book by Netgalley in exchange for a fair and honest review and I give it 4 stars. Engrossing story and it kept me turning the page to see what's going to happen.
